With the summer well underway and the creeks full of salmon, late August and September is a great time for bear viewing.  This beautiful brown bear was fishing when we surprised him.  He stood and checked us out long enough for some good photographs.  We saw two other bears while fishing for Pinks, Chums, and Silvers.  Being September the sun was slow to rise over the mountains.  It turned out to be a beautiful day, and a great day for stream fishing.  Two CEOs from Kalypso.com spent most of the day spincasting for salmon, watching for brown bears and learning about the life cycle of salmon from their guides, Larry and Sam.

Going green with hydro elecric

Kodiak Adventures Lodges is proud to announce that we are currently producing approx. 2/3 of our power use by hydro electric instead of generator power. As of July 7th when we officially "flipped the switch" we have been saving fuel and the environment.
Two of the side benefits have been that we have power 24 hours a day now and it is a lot quieter around here.

We did all the install ourselves and with the boys help were able to learn as we went.

During the winter it will supply 100% of our power and will be an even bigger savings .
It is operating at 60psi and is using 20gal. per minute of water coming from a sping above the lodge which flows all year.
Along with the new siding it gives the lodge a whole new face.!!!!

Fish are biting !!!

Well the summer is well under way and the weather so far has been terrific. The fish have been biting and lots Halibut and Salmon are filling our clients freezers. We have been catching Silvers early this year. The kings are a great way to test your fishing skills. They are great fighters and can be a real challenge for even the best of the big fish seekers. With good size Halibut and a 2 fish per day limit, everyone is reeling in some of these tasty flat fish to take home. Kiliuda Bay has been full of whales, with deer and fox on almost every beach we pass.

We will soon be up the streams for some bear veiwing and chasing the salmon as they move thier way up to spawn.

New look for the lodge

We have been working this summer between fishing trips sprucing up the lodge.

With new siding and trim the lodge has a whole new appearance.

We also have gone to hydro electric for a bulk of our power supply which really has made it quiet around the lodge with the generator shut off. Having power 24hrs a day will make it more convenient for us and the clients. Already our repeat clients are loving the idea of having lights when it is needed for the late night reading or other quiet pass times.

Wedding at Kiliuda Bay

We would like to anounce our first wedding at Kodiak Adventures Lodge.
Thomas and Jennifer were married on May 5th 2011 here at the lodge.
Larry was "pastor" and officiated the ceremony. Shelly was the bridesmaid while Jen's brother Ted was best man. They were here for a spring bear hunt. Even though Tommy had no luck with the bears, he will remember this day forever. We had a beautiful sunny day but not to hot for the camo wedding outfits.
Jen went fishing for Halibut the day before, she caught a few nice ones, but her best catch of the week was Thomas. They have known each other for many year and have been friends through much of life. May they now be best friends and joined for life!!

Kodiak Adventures Lodge enjoyed the company of many great clients through the summer. The Wickershams were no exception. They booked a full week of fishing and had great weather their entire trip. After catching many good sized halibut, there was talk of doing some Kodiak Brown Bear viewing while stream fishing for salmon. So we took advantage of a sunny but windy day(better to be on land than water)and headed out to one of the local streams to try our luck at salmon fishing. Many bears were sighted close by, and after a few tense moments, we got down to the business of catching some salmon. Everyone caught a few Chums and Pinks. Several of them had just recently entered the stream, as they were still very bright, so they were keepers.

They were even able to catch a highly prized white meat king salmon while saltwater trolling.
