Great Fishing and Great Summer Weather
So far both the summer weather and the fishing have been fantastic!!
Trolling for King Salmon has been very good, with lots of hook-ups and very few lost fish. Our new Lamiglas rods are preforming terrific and really make the fishing a lot more exciting. They are truly a welcome addition. Catching Halibut trolling was a real suprise for many new clients. Hooking a 60 pound plus Halibut on a downrigger rod designed for 25 pound to 40 pound fish was a real challenge. Catching a limit of Halibut was fairly easy, with so many hook- ups, the difficult part was deceiding which ones to keep and which ones to release. The Silver Salmon are just starting to show up in the bay. It won't be long and they will push their way up steam.
Fishing for Pink Salmon (Humpies)in the streams is at its peak. Fly fishing for them has been hot, with most clients catching and releasing an average of 5 or6 an hour. Our son, Sam, (age 11) has tried his hand at fly tying and found a good fly for catching Chums. Sam gave it to someone that caught the first Chum of their life using it.

Mid-August Pinks
Well we had a great run of pink salmon this year. During the week of the 24th we spent a few days doing some fly fishing in streams. We caught and released so many pink salmon that had lots of spunk, it was such a great time. There were also pinks caught in saltwater that had not yet gone into the streams to spawn. A pink salmon even jumped out of the water and if the cooler had been open it would have landed inside! Now that's fishing!! We cooked a few on the grill and boy were they tasty! The halibut fishing was just as awesome, there never was a day where the limit of halibut wasn't caught. As for the king salmon, they were not to be outdone! With water as calm as a lake, the bluebird skies and gorgeous scenery it was a great time!

King Salmon and Halibut Fishing
The king salmon and halibut fishing at Kodiak Adventures Lodge is great! Our guests have had great luck bringing in the fish. One client released 7 kings and 8 halibut in a 6 hour period!! Talk about great fishing! He had a phenomonal time with us and was able to see every animal Kodiak Island has to offer. There were whales breaching in front of the lodge, eagles flying overhead and seals playing at the end of the spit. It has been an amazing summer and we look forward to more great fishing as the season progresses.
