King Salmon Fishing is Hot

With every week we get hints of the impending fall. We are seeing more waterfowl show up with every day that goes by. The first scoters have arrived and we are anticipating opening duck season on October 8th.

Back to fishing news. With the Silvers starting to move into the streams, the King Salmon fishing is once again hot. There are no shortage of Coho (Silvers) on the hook, if you want them. We took many King Salmon ranging from 35 to 45 pounds this week. On one day we caught 3 big ones in 15 minutes and had a 60 pound plus break the 40 pound leader after 3 long runs. The next day we hooked a halibut while trolling and while we were stopped to release it (only 20 pounds), several halibut came up and tried to take the bait hanging in the water on the other lines. So we just decided to dangle lines in the water and see what would happen. We had several Halibut come up and take the bait! While fighting them on two occaisions we had Halibut that were just swimming around and leaping out of the water and acting like Coho's!! The clients all were in disbelief. They all remarked that they thought Halibut were only bottom feeders. Who would have thought it. It's not something you read about as normal behavior, but it sure was fun to watch.

After a limit of keepers were put in the cooler in less than an hour, we decided to go bear veiwing and fish the local streams for salmon. It was a very full day and a great way to end a week.
